Travellers flying from Gatwick to benefit from upgraded flight systems

Gatwick Airport, which currently holds the title of world's busiest single runway airport, has awarded a contract to NATS Services via its new owner – Global Infrastructure Partners. The contract aims to improve the efficiency of operations within the airport, and hopes to cut down aircraft emissions and passenger delays.

NATS Services was chosen by Global Infrastructure Partners to operate its new service, which it has dubbed A-CDM (Airport Collaborative Decision-Making), a service that the company hopes will develop and improve the management of its airfield. Gatwick, with routes to locations as diverse as Las Vegas, Prague and Riga, is the first airport to fully utilise the A-CDM service from NATS.



So what is A-CDM? Well, to put it simply it is the bringing together of all the different aspects of aircraft information onto one hand-held device or screen – information of which may include accurate forecasts of arrival times, current positions and optimum departure sequences. Important information such as this allows managers of air traffic, the airline and even support services to fine-tune daily operational decision-making into a more usable environment.

So how will this new development aid travellers departing to and from the airport? According to Head of Airside Operations at Gatwick, David Wilson, A-CDM will "not only increase the airport's capacity, it will also allow us to improve our aircraft stand management, traffic flows, taxi times and reduce congestion. This is already the world's busiest civil runway, and this will lead to more efficient operations, lower emissions and lower costs for our airlines."

The implementation of upgraded systems can be seen as a positive development for both the airport and its travellers. Gatwick will obviously benefit from smoother operations, and travellers will be set to enjoy more accurate flight information and fewer delays.

An Expedited Passport Will Keep You From Canceling Impending Travel Plans

If you need to get a passport quickly, you can apply for expedited pass ports. This service is an option no matter what type of passport you need. You will need to pay an extra $60 beyond the fees that are associated with the particular type of passport you are applying for.

There are some cases where it is recommended that you request your passport application to be expedited. If you are planning on traveling in the next couple of weeks, you should request this service. Also, if you need your passport within the next month to secure a foreign visa, this is recommended.

The time to process passports normally is around 4 to 6 weeks. When things are busier, it can take as many as 10 weeks. If you need your passport in less time, requesting expedited service may be wise to make sure you get it in time.

Southampton Airport Set to See Rise in Flights to International Destinations

It has been revealed that Southampton Airport is likely to see the number of its international flights increase after airline operator Flybe announced they will provide funding for a new fleet of planes. Focussing on increasing their passenger numbers to three million per year, Flybe expressed that it was interested in creating further routes to financial centres such as Helsinki, Stuttgart and Milan.

Securing £3.3bn to pay for a new fleet of 140 planes, chief commercial officer of Flybe, Mike Rutter, explained that the company was looking to add to its 36 routes that currently depart from the airport. Increasing the number of flights to current destinations Paris and Hanover, up to ten new routes are to be proposed, creating an impressive development for Southampton Airport as it draws closer to celebrating its 100th anniversary.



Speaking of the decision to increase activities at the airport, Mr Rutter said "This is great news for Flybe and as our largest and most important operation Southampton will benefit proportionally. It was a historic time for us in 2003 when we started to transform our business in Southampton and this is equally momentous." He also added that the increase in flights could lead to the company creating an additional1,000 jobs. Flybe confirmed that 35 new aircraft have already been ordered.

The announcement comes after the airline revealed a new alliance with Air France. With passengers now able to mix and match their flights, in addition to having access to a multitude of new locations, travellers in the south-west may want to look at Southampton Airport before looking further afield.
