Travel Insurance Coverage – Is It Mandatory For A UK-Based Vacation?
Check Here Now:
Just over a month in the past, my boyfriend and I decided to go to the beautiful city of Edinburgh for our 5 yr anniversary. We dwell in Dorset, so we didn’t wish to spend the whole time travelling. To make the journey easier on ourselves, we determined to fly there, and used a travel agent to organise the week lengthy holiday. Imagine my shock after I saw a further £27.50 on the quote for journey insurance! We had been solely going to Edinburgh, not Pittsburgh!
I was offended that they thought we would be so silly as to get journey insurance coverage for a visit within the UK. They’ve hospitals in Edinburgh, and it really isn’t very far away. But afterward, over a cup of hot chocolate, I put some more thought into it.
Vacation disasters can happen anywhere, not just overseas – so I made a list of what may feasibly go improper:
· One in every of us might fall ailing before we depart, we’d have no alternative but to cancel the trip. The flights and the hotel had been non-refundable, so we’d must pay anyway.
· My Grandfather has been in poor health recently, if he received out of the blue worse then I wouldn’t be capable of go on holiday. Once more, the trip would have to be cancelled.
· Either of us could be referred to as up for jury service at any time.
· Flights are delayed and cancelled all the time. On top of the inconvenience, we may need to rearrange an overnight keep close to the airport.
· Something might occur to our baggage, airways lose suitcases all the time.
· My boyfriend bought me a wonderful digital digicam as a present, if I misplaced it, it would be very expensive to replace.
Grasp on a minute, what about our Dwelling & Contents insurance coverage policy? I wager that may cowl us for loss of baggage or my digicam so long as I used to be in the UK. I found the policy and browse the small print. No such luck, only ‘personal possessions’ that had been listed on the policy counted, so every thing in the luggage wouldn’t be covered, and I’d need to make a cellphone name to get the camera included on the policy.
I remembered one thing else – we had over 4 years of no claims low cost on our Home & Contents policy. If we had to make a claim, we’d lose the no claims discount. Our premiums would go sky excessive after that, they were already high sufficient as it’s, at £305 a year. I realised that I actually should search for a less expensive Dwelling & Contents coverage on the time of renewal, and promised myself to try this in future.
After the investigations I had made up to now, I realised that £27.50 for a journey coverage wasn’t actually too bad.
I’ve by no means been one to relaxation on my laurels though. I might need decided that journey insurance was a good suggestion, but it didn’t mean I was willing to accept the worth quoted by the journey agent.
I went on-line to get some extra quotes. The primary two or three sites I looked at couldn’t give me what I needed, however 10 minutes later, I struck gold. I found a single trip travel policy for the UK, and it was a good £10 cheaper than the travel agent’s quote.
I learn the small print, no level signing up with out realizing all of the facts. I used to be pleased to see all the factors I had listed had been covered.
Now the exclusions – was it all too good to be true in spite of everything? Phew – no have to worry. If the holiday was lower than 25 miles from our home address, or for less than 2 nights, then we wouldn’t be covered. No problem there. Otherwise the one downside was that we’d should pay the £30 if we would have liked to make a claim. Honest enough.
Proud of the policy I’d found and with the choice that we did need journey insurance coverage after all, I bought the travel insurance coverage policy there and then.
