If You Need An Expedited Passport

September 24th, 2010

If you are new to traveling abroad, you might not know what travel documents are required for your destination. It is important that this be one of the first things you learn as you plan your trip. If the trip is sudden, or there is limited time for planning, you might find that you need to obtain an expedited new passport.

The process of getting your first passport is not difficult if the person takes the time to study what is required of them. There is an official application that is submitted to the proper governmental agency, along with required supporting documents and payment of a fee. These documents include proof of citizenship, some sort of personal identification to prove a match of applicant name and other identifying information, and a copy of that same personal identification. In addition, two color photos are required. For specific details of what are considered acceptable supporting documents, check the issuing agencys website.

There are at least two ways to speed up the process of passport application. When applying through the standard issuing agency, youll have the option to request faster service, for a fee. This allows that application to move to the front of the line for processing purposes. Another option is to utilize the services of a private company to assist in seeing the paperwork through to the end.

When applying to the passport agency for the first time, it is a requirement that the traveler personally appear. Under normal conditions this can take place at a passport agency office, or at what is called an Acceptance Facility, often located at a post office or a local governmental agency. When there is a need to have the passport within a shorter than normal period of time, the individual must make an appointment at a Regional Passport Agency and present all the required paperwork and new passport application form at the designated time. In this situation, an extra fee is assessed for the streamlined process.

Another option is to hire one of the many private companies that are in business for the purpose of assisting travelers to obtain needed travel documents. The process may be different in this situation, but the application and other document requirements are the same. In essence what the traveler is doing is hiring an agent to work with the government agency to speed the completion of the application. However, even in this scenario, the application process must still begin with the applicant presenting himself at an Acceptance Facility to initiate the application.

These companies are in business to provide a service to travelers by shortening the time to get documents. They charge for these services and the more urgent the need, the higher the fee. Some promise they can get a passport application through the process in less than two weeks and even as little as one day. If the requirement is speed, one of these companies might be the right solution.

If you have decided that one of these private companies is the best solution to meet your needs, then you must decide which one to select. Some factors to consider when making your choice should include how much you are willing to pay since different companies have higher fees for the same promised service. A key consideration is the reputation of the company, and whether they deliver what they promise. If you are counting on someone to get you what you need without disrupting your travel plans, you want to know that you have selected a reliable company.

In the fast paced society of the modern world, not having a passport shouldnt be a big concern should a sudden trip present itself. Whether using the standard agency, or a private company, most individuals needs can be met. As long as the application and supporting documents can be obtained in a timely manner, there is a way to get an expedited new US passport. Knowing this, the only worry is what to pack.

A Brief Guide To Expedited U S Passport Cards

August 22nd, 2010

You know what a passport card is designed for, and have determined that having one meets your travel needs. The next step is to understand what it takes to apply for the card, and how long it normally takes to get one. If you discover that the normal processing times do not meet your requirements, you might need to follow the steps necessary to get an rush passport card.

This new travel document was designed for United States residents of the northern and southern border states who frequently cross the border to work, shop, or visit family. It is meant to be a more convenient and less expensive alternative to a regular passport. First made available in 2008, it is an option for any US citizen.

If you know that you are only planning to travel between the US and the islands of the Caribbean, Mexico, or Canada, then the passport card could meet all of your needs. Keep in mind that the card is only valid for crossing sea or land borders. No international air travel can occur using this type of document.

The application requirements for a passport card are the same as if you were applying for a regular passport. In fact, you can apply for both simultaneously. When making your first application, you must do so in person at a Passport Agency office or at an Acceptance Facility. To make the application process more accessible to people these Acceptance Facilities, generally located at a local governmental office or post office, were created.

For a new applicant, you must complete form DS-11 and submit it to the agent at the Acceptance Facility. In addition, you must provide proof of your citizenship, proof of your identity, two passport photos that meet the application requirements, and the fee for the passport card. You will also have to pay the Acceptance Facility a fee to cover their work, as an intermediary agent of the Passport Agency. This fee is separate from the fee you pay to the issuing agency.

To make the application process as pain-free as possible, make sure to include the correct documents with the application. The most common document needed for native United States citizens is a birth certificate issued and certified by a government agency. For US citizens born outside the country, a Consular Report of Birth Abroad will work, or a Certification of Citizenship that is received when establishing citizenship is acceptable. A photo I.D., such as a valid drivers license, a current military identification, or a current identification card issued by a city, state, or federal government agency serves as proof of identity. It is a requirement that a photocopy of the proof of identity document be provided, so plan ahead on this.

If you are a current passport holder, and feel that having a passport card as well is of value to you, there is an application process that you can complete by mail. Since you have already gone through the initial application process and provided proof of citizenship and identity, the DS-82 form is submitted as your application for the passport card. This is the same form that is used when getting a priority pass port, so if you are due to renew soon, you might want to do both together. With this process you submit your current passport with the application form, two new photographs, and the fees required. Your passport will be returned to you along with your new card.

Normal processing times for receiving a passport card are approximately four to six weeks from receipt of the application. If its necessary to have the card faster than this, there is an option to request an expedited passport card. There is an additional $60 fee, above and beyond the other fees for this service. Choosing to expedite will generally cut the processing time by half. In addition, there will be the cost of overnight delivery services used to ship the card to the recipient.

An Expedited Passport Will Keep You From Canceling Impending Travel Plans

July 25th, 2010

If you need to get a passport quickly, you can apply for expedited pass ports. This service is an option no matter what type of passport you need. You will need to pay an extra $60 beyond the fees that are associated with the particular type of passport you are applying for.

There are some cases where it is recommended that you request your passport application to be expedited. If you are planning on traveling in the next couple of weeks, you should request this service. Also, if you need your passport within the next month to secure a foreign visa, this is recommended.

The time to process passports normally is around 4 to 6 weeks. When things are busier, it can take as many as 10 weeks. If you need your passport in less time, requesting expedited service may be wise to make sure you get it in time.

To assist in getting your passport as quickly as possible, it is suggested to send the application using overnight delivery and to have the new passport sent that way as well. If you choose to send it using mail, write EXPEDITE on the package. Also, it is best to send it so that it is traceable. No matter how you send it, make sure that the package is secure so that no damages occur to it.

You do not need a particular reason for requesting that your passport be expedited. The service is available for everyone and all types of passports: childs, name change, renewal or first time. One thing to note is that passports applied for together are not necessarily sent together. In addition, documents that are sent with the application and need to be sent back to you may also be sent separately from the passports.

If a life or death emergency situation requiring a passport in less time than this, do not use the expedited service for your passport. Rather, you will have to call the passport agency to request an emergency service appointment. When you go to the agency, you might be asked for proof of why you need your passport immediately.

Expedited passports are normally received within two to three weeks. Because of this, you will be best off if you always make sure that you have a valid passport at all times. Should you want to travel in less than two weeks and it is not for an emergency situation, you may well end up having to cancel your plans.

If you have gone through a name change, such as because of marriage, you will have to get a passport in the new name. This is important to consider when you are making honeymoon plans. If you are planning on going some place out of the country, it may be best to do all your name change paperwork when you come back.

Apply for an expedited US passport if there is any reason you might end up needing it faster than usual. It is worth the extra fee if it means you do not have to cancel last minute plans. Once you have it, you will not need to go through the process again for ten years.

The Easiest Ways To Obtain A 24HR US Passport

July 15th, 2010

When traveling overseas, it is necessary to carry and present a passport. The traveler is often so worried about arranging the itinerary and packing, the passport is overlooked. When it comes time to finalize all arrangements, travelers realize that they never got a passport. In this situation, getting a 24hr new passport becomes necessary.

The rush service offered by the U.S. government costs $60 in addition to the normal processing charges. Current fees are $75 for adults and $60 for minors, plus a $25 execution charge. Payment is accepted via check, bank draft, money order, credit card, or check/debit card when the documents are presented to a Passport Agency. If the application is being presented to a post office, the applicant should contact the post office to find out what types of payment are accepted.

Individuals who mail in their paperwork must pay with a money order or personal check. To get the passport in the quickest manner, it is recommended that two-way overnight delivery be selected. The application and supporting documentation should be mailed in a package that cannot be tampered with and sent via a delivery method that is traceable.

If the traveler already has a passport that needs to be renewed, or if amendments need to be made, the rush service may also be used. Travelers who need more blank pages added to their passports or those who have a name change will qualify for this rush processing. The appropriate form to include in the package, as well as information regarding additional documentation required, can be found on the government Web site.

The current government processing times for an expedited passport applications, including those that include overnight delivery, is two to three weeks. This takes into account any additional time for the government agency to receive the application and mail the passport to the applicant. Applicants may check the status of their application online in order to see where the processing stands.

Applicants who cannot wait three weeks to receive a passport should look to a private company that provides faster service. These companies require the same paperwork as the government, but they will work with the federal agency to get this information processed in a more expeditious manner. These services can provide a passport to an applicant in as little as one business day when overnight delivery is used.

The cost to get a passport within 24 hours is approximately $300. If the applicant can wait about one week, the cost drops substantially to about $149. Though this may seem like a lot of money to pay, it may be necessary in the case of unplanned travel. These private companies offer additional services, like loss protection, for a small added fee.

An individual who will be traveling to a foreign country can use either the government or a private company to get a 24hr pass port. The government will charge an additional $60 over the regular processing fees but it will take two to three weeks for delivery. Private companies may charge several hundred dollars in order to receive a passport within the next business day.

The Fastest Approach To Get New Passport Pages

July 7th, 2010

When travelers are on their way out the door headed to the airport is not an ideal time to realize that additional US passport pages must be added to their passbooks. Anyone planning a trip requiring a passport should check the passbook to see if it needs more pages. These can be ordered and received with time left to spare before the trip, avoiding a potentially stressful situation.

Travelers who have less than two to four pages left in their passbooks are eligible to add more. People who travel regularly will know when they have reached this point but those who do not will need to dust off the passbook and take a look. If the book is filling up with stamps, it may be time to order additional sheets.

Requesting additional sheets is not a complicated process and it can be done in several ways at varying costs. The passbook holder should go to the Web site for the Department of State and download form DS-4085. This form may be printed and legibly completed by hand or it may be filled out online and then printed. Mail is the only way to submit the completed form because electronic means are not currently accepted.

Passport holders who do not have access to a computer with Internet service will need to visit a local Passport Agency or the site of an Acceptance Facility to obtain form DS-4085. Both this form and the American passports will need to be mailed to the government in order to get the additional passport pages. This is where the different costs come into play.. Having the information processed by the government using its standard service will not cost the passbook holder anything. The only charge will be for a traceable mail delivery service that the government recommends.

The government is currently working within a four to six week turnaround time for processing additional sheets. If a passbook holder needs the updated document within two to three weeks, he or she can pay a $60.00 fee for expedited government processing. To ensure that the item is provided expedited handling, expedite should be written on the outside of the envelope. The package should be sent using an overnight mail service.

Travelers who are especially crunched for time should consider using a private company to speed the process of getting additional sheets for the passbook. These services can return the updated passbook to the traveler within two business days or less. However, getting this rush processing will cost the traveler several hundred dollars plus shipping charges, in addition to the $60.00 government expedited processing fee.

There will be several additional forms required when using a private company for processing. In addition to the DS-4085 government form, the passbook holder must complete a document that authorizes the company to act on behalf of the individual. Applicants who request processing within seven business days or less must submit a copy of the flight itinerary, airline ticket, or employer authorization letter. Any of these will serve as proof that the passbook holder has immediate travel plans.

Passbook holders have several options when it comes to getting pasport pages. These include the governments free service with a turnaround time of six weeks or its $60.00 expedited service with a three week turnaround period. Individuals have one additional option if they are willing to pay more money in order to get the updated passbook within as little as 24 hours and that is using a private company.

Deciding Upon Whether To Take A Look At A Passport Agency Or Go Via The Web

June 14th, 2010

The American passport agency provides a valuable service by handling passport issuance and renewal. However, there are only 13 passport agencies in the country and most of them are not accessible by many citizens. These agencies usually require appointments that may need to be scheduled far in advance. This is not convenient for travelers who need a passport in a hurry.

The passport agency offers a basic three day turnaround time on processing the passport application and while this is considered fast, may not be an option for everyone. There is of course the issue of location and if an individual does not live nearby to one of these offices, he or she may end up having to plan a trip in order to have their passport needs met. This can end up costing an individual more than it is worth to go get the passport.

The Web provides a great alternative to an in-person visit to the passport agency. Many companies offer United States passport services without requiring the applicant to visit a passport agency. These companies work with the government agency responsible for passport issuance in order to get a new passport into the applicants hands in no time.

The applicant will not need to make an appointment with a passport agency when using an online service provider. These companies have Web sites full of detailed instructions regarding the passport application and renewal process. They also include links to all required forms on their sites in order to make the process even more convenient.

Service providers of this kind take all the guesswork out of these forms for the individual by being on hand to answer any questions they may have regarding the forms or any other part of the process. These highly trained professionals have a wide knowledge base to draw from in getting this all done right. By ensuring that is done the first try, this helps to speed the process along when it comes to submitting the paperwork.

Individuals who utilize these online processing services for passport renewal will most likely only need to venture out to get their passport photos taken. The photos must be 2×2 inches in size, in color, and front view in order to be accepted for passport purposes. There are also other specifications, so check the processing companys Web site prior to sending in passport photos.

Once the application is completed, the verification documents are copied, and the photos have been taken, all that remains to be done is put everything into a package and send to the processing company via a traceable shipping method. It is important to send the information via this method because the package contains highly confidential material. The last thing passport applicants need is for their personal information to end up in the hands of a stranger.

Many people will find the online alternative much more preferable to the passport agency. It is overall more convenient for those who do not live near a major metropolitan area that houses one of these offices. These pasport services can provide all the same passport services along with being faster in some cases with their turnaround time.
